After replacing with iFixit battery phone is depleting when plugged in

I just successfully replaced my 5s battery which had about half of its charged life, with an iFixit replacement battery. It charged successfully for a few hours and then started depleting despite showing as "charging" with the lightning bolt and everything.

I actually solved this problem with a piece of scotch tape over the connector from the battery on the logic board which I learned from an apple forum that it may have been shorting.

The problem has returned albeit intermittently. Anyone with any experience on the subject? Any help is appreciated.
