water damaged htc one m8 not charging

k so my htc one m8x was in my wet pants pocket on the bathroom floor over night, the next day when I found the phone it was off and wouldn't turn on, I figured it was flat so pluged in to charger and nothing happened, no charging light came on. so I read a heap of stuff on the net about letting the phone dry out and so on.

yesterday it been sitting on my computer desk for about a week I decided to plug it in to the laptop and see if it would charge... and to my surprise a little orange light came on and was blinking... phone wouldn't turn on though, after about 20 mins on charge I felt that the phone was getting slightly warm I decided to pull it off the charger for a bit then I put it on the wall charger nothing happened for a sec then the orange light appeared then the screen came on with a battery symbol then the screen turned off after a second and the orange light seemed to be blinking faster then it was blinking before, (when it was charging on the laptop), I thought maybe it needs time to charge up because it is completely flat.

well it had been on the charge for about an hour, still blinking and not turning on, also when I put my ear on the back of the phone and listen I can hear a quite little clicking sound don't know what this means..

I should add that today after hours on charge the phone screen has been turning on with the battery charging logo and also coming on with the boot screen but then turning off again would this mean that the battery is just not taking a charge?

can anyone help with this problem, it would be most helpful, I loved this phone I really hope it can come back to life.

Here's a video of it that I've posted on YouTube if anyone wants to see the phones weird charging issue.

The battery is usually the first to fail on an HTC one when it comes to water damage. The battery itself has a small circuit board attached to it that the battery's ribbon cable attaches to. It usually gets easily damaged by water causing the battery to not function properly. So you will likely need a new battery. I would recommend to stop trying to charge or turn on the phone until it has been properly cleaned and a new battery installed.

Clean any parts or all parts suspectable to corrosion. This will help prolong the life of the phone by removing minerals left behind by water when it dries, if not cleaned then these minerals may build up over time causing damaging corrosion and possible electrical shorting. Best cleaning method is using an ultrasonic cleaner or having it cleaned processionally by someone with an ultrasonic cleaner. If you can not use an ultrasonic cleaner than I recommend using 99% isopropyl alcohol and a small brush to clean the motherboard and other parts. There are guides on this site as well as YouTube that can show you how to clean with isopropyl alcohol. Also remove the shielding on the motherboard to properly clean it. Once thoroughly clean reassemble the phone with a new battery. Try to power up the phone and test it functioning properly. Hope this helps and good luck on the repair.

side note, when mine got wet (after it already went through some abuse resulting in a cracked screen) the main issue it had was water had gotten into the sim card slot and if i had taken that out and let it dry before trying to power it back on i think it would have been fine. i discovered it later with the sim card fried...
