Film advance lever stuck
The film advance lever won't move more than 1/2", how do i troubleshoot this problem? Does it have to. Have film in it to advance? Does it have to have the batteries in to have the advance lever move?

Hi Herb, I used to work on dozens of the x-370's. The problem might be the shutter is already advanced and the shutter won't release because of a bad capacitor on the bottom of the camera. If you remove the bottom plate you will see a small flexible circuit with a little black can soldered to the flexible circuit. That is more than likely the culprit. So i would replace that and make sure you have a good battery to try it out. If thats not the problem you might have an issue with the film advance gearing which requires replacing and timing the gearing to the shutter assembly.

Just opened my x-300s up and the connections to a black barrel looking thing look corroded. Is this the culprit? Sounds like you called it spot on.
Do you know where the specs of the capacitor are listed? Would save me a lot of digging. Just thrifted a x370 and ran into the same issue. took the bottom off and it looks like the capacitor is corroded on one terminal.

The manual for the X370 says that when the battery is discharged (dead) that the shutter is locked. Replace the battery and the shutter will release and the film advance lever will operate. This is an electronic camera and you must have a good batatery in it or it will not work.

Mine has brand new batterys and the film advance leaver won't release why and I have the Minolta x300s
did you find a solution? just bought the same camera and i have the same problem
