Replacement of screen assembly

Hi there,

I'm looking to replace the screen on my HTC One (M7 version).

I have read a couple of your guides, and I just want to confirm that I need something like this rather than something like this. Obviously, if I could do just fine with the cheaper product, I'll take that, but that's what I'm a bit uncertain of.

It depends on the problem you're display is experiencing. If the display is able to display a picture without any issues but does not respond to touch then you only need to replace the digitizer which is the cheaper part you listed.

If the display does not display an image or if the image is distorted or has issues then the LCD is faulty and you will want the whole display assembly (LCD/digitizer) which is the more expensive part you listed above.

I should of course had described the problem with my phone. It's only the glass that's broken; the touch functionality and display features work just fine - also in the area of the cracked glass.

The reason why I did not mention this at first, I think, was because that this guide (HTC One Display Assembly Replacement) mentions that, "The touch screen and LCD display are fused together so it is very difficult to replace one piece or the other separately. In order to be successful, it is recommended to replace the entire assembly."

Looking forward to reading your advice.

Hey Martin you are correct about the display having the digitizer fused to the LCD. It can be a difficult task replacing just the digitizer on a fused display assembly. You run the risk of breaking the LCD if you are not careful when trying to remove the digitizer, especially if you do not have all the tools. If you have not done this type of repair and want the easiest repair then replace the whole display. If you like a challenge and want to attempt the digitizer only repair to save money or to gain some experience than I say it's worth a shot. You could try removing the digitizer before purchasing your new part. That way if you are succcessful you won't be spending much money and you have gained some experience. I am guessing you could find some digitizer only repairs for the m7 on YouTube. If you are in a hurry to get your phone fixed its quicker to replace the whole display. I hope this helps.

Hi again

I was just wondering, I can see that some of the sellers of screen assemblies on eBay and Amazon indicate that their products are OEM. Can you actually count on the product being from the original manufacturer? Most of the items indicated as OEM do have a higher price. Also, can you count on the item being of a higher quality, thus justifying the higher price?
