Water Damage mixed with Breaking Retaining Clip on Digitizer
Ok so I was trying to repair my friends iphone 6 plus. He dropped it in water and I believe fried it, it would not turn on at all after sitting in rice for days. I disassembled it and scrubbed everything down with 99% Isopropyl alcohol and let the logic board sit in the alcohol for about 30 min. It looked like the Logic board may have burned up or something because I still had to scrub it good to get all of this black debris off of it. I also ordered a new battery from ifixit to replace the old one.
I let everything sit for a few days after scrubbing it and put in the new battery however there is a massive problem. The first flap you take off from the digitizer the connecter ripped off and is stuck in the logic board. I did not notice this until I put the screen back on. I am so upset about this. I just tried to put the flap over the broken connecter the best I can and screw it down but surely I will need more support or something to even know if it will work.
So what happens when I go to power the phone on now is it powers on mostly black with these white boxes going across the top the screen and that is all I can see. Sometimes it lets me shut it off with a hard reset but one time would not shut off at all until I unplugged the battery. Also one time so far it felt like the phone was working where I can hold the power button and slide to shut off. I still could not see it I just kind of guess I was at the slide off screen but it worked.
So my question is, one do I need a whole new digitizer which go for about $350 or is there a way I can fix this? I have watched some solder videos but they are usually soldering the connecter on the logic board not the flap itself. I also viewed a thread talking about using Mylar tape and something to wedge pressure on the flap to keep it in place. Linked here: (I am not even sure this is the same issue) broken digitizer retaining flaps
My problem with the water damage and all is who knows if I get a new digitizer if the phone will even work at all. Also would this one flap cause the whole screen to just stay black? Is there any way I can test this temporarily before I order this tape to even attempt this?
Thanks in advance Ifixit!
