Time display unreadable as it is missing several characters

model iD91 display disappeared for 2 years, until I discovered it did this when the room was not cold. In a cold room the display is perfect. Called ihome who gave me the same basic instructions which does not work. Anyone else solve this strange problem?

Hi to everyone around here. I have an iHome ID95 with the same defect. Since I love it because of its sound quality and features I was not going to give up with the task of fixing it. From the datasheet of the IC that drives the LCD display (MB95F378E), I found that is is possible to supply it from 1.8 to 3.6 VCC. I thought that since the LCD starts to fade out when temperature rises above 25 °C, and it is very common in most houses, it should be the LCD drivers circuit that isn't able to continually source the needed signal. So I tryed to overdrive the IC. To do so, I used an external power supply and started with the 3.3 VDC that is the same VCC that provides the internal regulator. With the fault at view and rising the external power supply slowly, the LCD starts to show normal again. I found out that at the maximum VCC that is rated for the IC, it wasn't the best value for the LCD to show as a brand new unit does. So I decided to go on and arrived to 4.2 VDC.

(cont.) The circuit still worked and let it going at the 4.2 VDC for a whole day to verify that it wasn't just a lucky shoot. Well, finally I build a "parallel regulator" based on a 78L05, wich takes the power in from a 6.5 VDC that I found internally in the ID95, and to get the needed 4.2 VDC to feed the MB95F378E, I just conected a NPN transistos in series with the 78L05 out terminal as a diode to produce a ~0.8 VDC drop from the 5 volts. I used the EB juncture because it has a variable drop value from aprox 0.7 volt with low current up to 1.2 volts drop with 300 mA. This work was made on 17/03/2019 so it has more than a year working. Any one who has an unusable ID95, can try this mod to get it back to fully operational state. I have a couple of pictures that I toke but I really don't know how to upload them to this site. I had the same problem! My model is iDL43 and it is only 2 months old. I just fixed the problem!! I called the iHome Audio people (I-800-288-2792) - You may want to call because there may be different instructions for different models but this is what they told me to do:

1. Unplug clock/radio

2. Take batteries out of bottom of radio (unscrew and remove batteries, you may not have realized there were batteries!)

3. Wait 20-25 minutes for clock/radio to 'reset'

4. Plug clock/radio back in

5. Viola!! IT WORKS!

6. The woman at iHome Audio said if it works then you can put batteries back in, if it doesn't work call them back. I am not putting the same batteries in, they are an unknown brand, maybe old(?) or cheap.

Same problem Here, unfortunately product is out of warranty.

This appears to be a manufacturing defect which does not rear its ugly head until the clock has been in operation for more than a year. I bought the radio clock primarily as a clock, and now I cannot tell time on it....

Same here screen display stop working after two years of service.

Could it be that were on to something that this product is defective from manufacture

Same here. Also within 2 years of purchase. I have never had a cheap clock/radio exhibit such an issue.

I have emailed iHome, but as it is out of warranty, well....

Looking closely at the Yamaha TSX-B72, as I doubt I can trust iHome after this. In addition, I want AM reception as well as FM, and all their new products are FM only.

I have the same problem that the Clock display segments started to fail after about one and a half years. No answer from iHome on this. I can't afford to buy a new clock radio every year, looking for a solution from other companies.

I have this same problem with the iBT97. Once a year or so ago, this came up and the unplugging everything solution worked. This time it is not working. I unplugged it and took the battery out and left it that way for a whole day. When I plugged it back in, the display is almost unreadable.

Anyone figured out a more involved fix? Replace the display or a board?

iHome told me that the displays weren’t meant to be repaired. So they offered me a 40% discount on a new product but I decided to pass and look for a better quality product elsewhere. No more iHome junk!

Junk. Ihome should have recalled the fkg clocks. I have two. They stopped working in two years. Unreadable. Junk. What do they care a reputable company would have recalled them. But. China made junk is a chinamans dream. American dummies keep buying it over and over. I will never buy ihome anything. Ever. I likes my old clock radio. Emerson. Made in the usa. Its 30 years old. Not pretty to look at or modern. Doesn’t charge anything but i can tell time!!! Shame on this company and the companies that support such junk. Big tech. They only care about themselves. I miss American made.
