Will replacing the display fix the problem?
The iPod went through the wash but it still works, except that the display has no backlighting. Will replacing the display module fix the problem, or could something else still be damaged?

did you "clean" the iPod after the damage ?
normally the logicboard should be cleaned with isoprpyl alcohol (>90&) and a soft paintbrush. if some parts are shorted, it could be responsible for the problems. there is also the possibility that a ribbon cable si defective - the only way to find out is to open the iPod and checking the logic board and the ribbon cables/connectors
