iPod Classic randomly resets

My iPod Classic (120Gb 7th gen) randomly crashes and resets itself. Resets occur anywhere between 10 and 60 minutes. No real pattern to it, doesn't seem to be triggered by skipping numerous tracks, navigating the menu, bumps, etc as it happens if I don't touch the unit. When it happens I get a pixelated white apple logo in front of two dark blue and light blue stripes. Sometimes gets stuck on that screen and I have to reset it, usually it restarts by itself. No other problems with the unit, just this.

Probably good 5 years old now but has pretty much always done this (never got to claiming on warranty, long story).
