Is there a maximum disk size the iPod OS can support

Hello,

I have a big problem changing the hard drive on my 2nd gen iPod. I replaced the original 10 Go HDD by a 128Go SSD (Kingspec 1.8" CF Solid State Drive (IDE 50pin) (KSD-CF18.6-XXXMS).

I've spent many hours trying to see the disk in Disk Utility to format it in HFS+ in order to prepare it for iTunes.

It takes between 20-30 minutes to mount and then when i lunch the format procedure it takes a very (Around half an hour) to do so until it tells me that it's impossible to write on the last bloc...

So is the SSD faulty here ? Or maybe this old iPod cannot support such a big disk ?

Please help me !

I'd also like to know this. I'd love to swap out the original HD for a SSD.

The problem you face here is not only finding the HD but one that will fit within the limited space within your iPod.

IDE HD's which the iPod used are not being made any more and IDE SSD are very rare.

The problem you face is the size of the back case the larger drives are higher in height and the back shell was made larger to support the bigger drive on the newer models.

So on the most part you're stuck putting the same or smaller drive in.

well I don't know of any size constraints but I know there are adapters that let you use compact flash card in them because of the size constraints of the ipod those work great
