Why does my cable work with one controller but not another?

I use one main controller and one secondary one for my friend. Anyway, I was using it on my laptop to play games and I synced them together. After, I un-synced them and try to re-sync it with my ps3. However, it wouldn't work. I plugged in the cable, and the controller didn't respond at all. I tried it on the other controller and it worked fine. It wasn't out of charge, and I had reset the controller to see if that helped. I'm thinking that part where you plug the cable in on the controller is broken, so I'm wondering if and how I could fix it?
