Battery terminal melted battery connection what do I look for?

It might only be a loose connection of the battery cable. My brother replaced his battery in his '06 Sporty. Unknown to him the negative cable loosened when sliding the battery back into place. When he tried to start it the negative terminal (the boxy cage type not solid kind) melted from the loose connection. If you look at pics of different motorcycle batteries you will understand what I mean. I hope this helps, Steve.
