Hi I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU of my 17 inch iMac that currently has a 1.83 GHz CPU.
I'm wondering what the highest possible upgrade is for this. I saw a tutorial where it could be upgraded to core 2 duo, but wonder if it's possible to upgrade higher?

There are two versions of this system one with a Core Duo (T2400) 32bit and the other a Core 2 Duo (T5600) 64bit.
The T2400 will only run 32bit OS's (Snow Leopard being the highest) and apps.
The T5600 will run a newer 64bit OS (Lion being the highest), but your system only has a 32-bit EFI so you can't run 64bit apps which most are now.
Even with upgrading the CPU these limits are still present.
