Why is it not taking a charge and also frozen screen?
a song is displayed on the screen but no buttons work and the battery display is totally empty and not taking a charge

Try resetting the iPod by holding the Menu and Center buttons for 6-10 seconds. If that does not work, then try connecting the iPod to iTunes and restoring the iPod. If that still does not fix the problem, then you may have a bad logic board.
