Why won't my tablet produce sound?

I am playing videos and music on my tablet, but there is no sound coming out of the speakers. I tried plugging in my headphones, but no sound is being transferred to the headphones either. I tested my headphones on another device, and they worked fine. Why won't my tablet produce sound?

I looked everywhere for an answer and tried it ALL, from cleaning the jack port, reboot, restore to fabric options, and many more, but none of them worked. However, as I was trying not to go crazy trying so many weird things on my new not properly working tablet, I accidentally found the solution!!! why it works I don't know, but it does so here it goes:

1. Turn device off

2. Make sure your headphones are plugged ALL the way in (you should hear a click sound)

3. Press the on/off button and the volume up button at the SAME TIME

4. Once the screen is on let the on/off button go

5. DO NOT let the volume up button go

6. Wait until the tablet has finished loading all settings up.

7. Let volume up button go.

Problem should be fixed now. Enjoy

Hello Aaron,

If you are sure that your headphones are not the problem, then there must be a software/hardware issue with the tablet itself. You can try a full restore of your device or replace the audio jack or motherboard. By restoring your device, you make sure there is no software issue with your device. If the sound still does not work, try replacing your audio jack. This will ensure that the port you place your headphones into is not damaged. If this still does not work, try and replace the motherboard. This will ensure that the main hardware component of all your device's functions is not damaged and your device should start to produce sound again.

Visit our troubleshooting page for more information about your problem and any future problems you may have. There is a section about sound issues already waiting for you! Hope this helped!

i have had the same issue all i did was hold on to the up button for about 5 secconds and when i let go my media and sound was workingg just fine. if that does not work all u have to do is just turn it off for about 1 or 2 minutes and and then turn it on. press up on the volume button until all the volumes are on the highest they can be then press the settings button next to the volume then you will see that the volume that was not working will be working much better.

I had the same problem, but the solution was very easy!

1- Keep your tablet on and go to setting

2- Accessibility

3- Scroll down to the hearing section

4- You will find " Turn off all sounds was marked" remove the mark and your tablet/phone will work so well.

Enjoy your music :)

Possibly related issue.. I have a Galaxy Tab 4 (10.1) with a Nook case from Barns&Knoble. I thought at first I had the same problem as above. When I tried plugging in some computer speakers into the headphone jack it seemed I couldn't get any sound out. Tried above suggestions...nothing. Tried another computer speaker set..same thing...nothing. Ultimately I tried a standard 1/8" headphone jack from a set of ear-buds...it worked! After a little examination I realized that the silly plastic case (Nook case) that my Tab 4 was in had a smaller plastic hole for the plug to pass thru than what would normally be required to let the speaker plug seat completely in. This prevented the 3 point stereo connection...duh. So I drilled out the plastic hole on the Nook case, put the case back on, inserted plug..problem solved. Now all my slightly fatter 1/8" stereo plugs work fine.

I had a similar problem where I had no sound when I tried to Skype my son but found that all I had to do was to plug in earphones, wait a few seconds and pull out the earphones again. The sound was back! Given the number of people experiencing this problem it appears as though the audio of the tablet/phone is 'shorting out'. ? if this is due to static and the act of plugging in and then removing the earphones seems to clear this. If it is due to static then we all need to be careful that the audio doesn't end up permanently damaged. There are other forums on the Net where people are complaining of constant 'crackling' sound coming from the internal speakers which sounds like classic static problems. One person even got a Samsung tech to come out but all he said was that he'd never come across this problem before so didn't know what to do! I honestly believe the problem lies in the fact that the tablet/phone is being affected by static. It's concerning, in that this problem is not confined to one particular model of Samsung phone or tablet and I wonder if Samsung models are suffering from one of the following; poor grounding, bad connections or some internal component. There are 2 kinds of static EMI which is electromagnetic interference - this is the one that you hear like crackling or fizzing coming from your device and ESD which is electrostatic discharge - this is the horrible one that gives you that zap when you touch a metal object because you unknowingly got charged up on the nylon carpet. However funny for others to see you can actually permanently damage your device if enough of a static charge hits it.

Coated cables inside your device should protect against damage from static so perhaps some Samsung devices are not as well protected as others. We all have so many devices in our homes these days and it is essential that we try to keep them apart so that static isn't built up in them. Those of us who have been affected with audio problems should think about where you charge your device or where you leave it when you are home. The one thing I did wrong was to leave my mobile phone on top of my tablet Ensure you use a anti-surge adapter when recharging your device, so this is possibly why my audio stopped working!. Dust is one of the biggest problems for any device because dust particles become charged and can cause your device to not work properly.

I haven't tried using something to discharge the static on my tablet but I would imagine one of the anti-static bags that are used to transport computer parts would do the trick. Sorry to have gone on but sometimes we are in such a rush living our lives that we don't see what we are doing. I hope this has helped.

Rare but it could be hardware issue. Make sure that the back plate “clicked” properly to the main body.

Push under or around the back camera. First you’ll here the sound’s coming back then if you push harder you’ll ’’feel” that the plastic back plate clicks back and the sound now is fixed.

In case there is no changes for this push than it’s probably a software issue

I hope this helped
