I have a thinkpad t510 4313 CTO running on a 1600x900(HD+) resolution. Since the screen cracked, I want to replace the LCD screen from HD+ to full HD(1920x1080). I have seen warnings in few forums that some times cable needs to be changed or upgraded screen might look fuzzy. Please tell me if I have to heed to warnings and go with the same 1600x900 resolution or would the same laptop work with 1920x1080 resolution too.

You are well informed to discover that your laptop indeed will support the higher resolution screen. The LED cable is indeed supported across all versions of the t510 and 510i for the resolutions from 1366x768, 1600x900, and 1920x1080. Make sure you do have the correct LCD cable, which you will see directly on the cable as the FRU #: 75Y5557
Please do not confuse this with the LED cable, that connects the webcam and rear panel LED.

You might notice that there is also a multi-touch 1080p panel that would be compatible, but you would be better just buying the whole assembly on that one, since you would have to buy a different set of hinges, rear panel, front bezel, and screen.
Finally, the part that you do not want to see. Generally I recommend sticking with the same type of screen laptops are shipped with. The higher resolutions tend to put a greater strain on the graphics card and your wallet, and unfortunately I could not find anywhere that could tell me exactly what Intel HD GPU they integrated on the motherboard; but so long as you are running the Intel HD 3000 or 4000 series GPU, you will be just fine with the 1080p screen.
I also do not have a t510 that I could use to make a guide on how to replace the screen, but having worked on them before, it pretty easy.
1. Remove the screw covers right next to the hinges and unscrew the two Phillips head screws to free the front bezel.
2. The rest of the bezel is snapped in, so you should be able to pull the bezel off starting from the bottom-center of the screen and working your way outwards and upwards.
3. Remove the 4 screws holding the hinges to the back panel, two at the bottom near the hinges and two at the top corners.
4. There are 3-4 more screws holding the screen to the hinges on each side. Simply unscrew those last 6-8 screw and the screen will be ready to replace.

I checked my laptop graphic card information. I found that it uses an NVIDIA NVS 3100M. Do you think this is good enough to support 1080p screen?
Yup that GPU is right on par with the Intel HD 3000. You won't be playing any DirectX 11 games but it should handle any 1080p video you throw at it, with gusto.

I have a L520 5016 RR9, will it handle a 1600X900 screen? now it's HD and doesn't look so good.

You didn’t mention if it’s a 30pin or 40pin. Also the link you have states t520. I’m assuming they’re the same compatible monitor.
On my T510 with built in Nvidia 3100M the upgrade from 1600x900 to 1920x1080 did not work.
I installed a 1920x1080 glossy LCD with a LD brand tag.
The T510 runs Windows 7, with updated BIOS and graphic driver.
After disabling Aero, the screen worked, unless there is a black background. Then it shows a strong 'video -flicker'. When booting up, the flicker is so strong that it is nearly impossible to read anything.

Sounds like you received a bad display? Did you purchase used or new? Used displays are a crapshoot.
i replaced my broken 1366x768 display (Samsung) by a FHD one (LG) and it work perfectly, better than i expected.
my laptop is T510 i5 520m (upgraded with i7 640m), SSD 500Go and 8 Go ram, and now FHD screen :D

Hey I'm doing the same upgrade as you. I know that I'm looking for 15.6 inch, LVDS, 40 pin display but I'm not sure will all displays which meet above criteria work. Do you know? Do you know what model do you have?

Yes majo, it worked. But be careful when you purchase a screen. I ended up purchasing one with 1 dead pixel. Problem is that the dead pixel is right in the middle and looks prominent when playing a movie. Every other time, I am more than satisfied with the screen. I don't have any other issue with the upgrade.

Did you need to change the cable too? I read about LVDS and EDP cables, but frankly I am still confused about that.

I don't remember changing any cable. However, try going through specifications page for t510 at lenovo website. I remember that HD+ and full HD has same cable requirement.
