Sleep Function Does Not Work

Hey guys, basically the Mac does not sleep at all instead it just shuts itself down. For example pressing sleep on the menu and then waiting a few seconds it won't turn on, just completely shuts down so I have to press the power button to turn it back on. This also happens if I just simply close the lid.

Although when the Mac is plugged into the charger it goes into a boot loop, just keeps turning itself on and off if I close the lid or press the sleep option.

I have reset the PRAM and all those other things to no vail. Is there anything else I can do? Could it be a malfunctioning part?

I would try re-seatting the RAM in the machine, if it's ever been opened or dropped a cable may have been nicked or pinched and as you move the top it shorts out the machine, and stays shorted out until you open the lid and boot.

If it's had weight stacked on it, or crushed in a case or bin you may have a cracked battery, moving the lid flexes cables and expands/contracts crack. I had a MBA that had strange power behavior that was traced back to a cracked internal battery.

The other possibility is a corrupt sleep setting. Try turning off sleep mode in System Preferences.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Unfortunately not, this machine has never been opened at all. It's also a Retina Mac so the RAM is soldered onto the board if I'm not mistaken.

Even if the lid isn't moved or closed the problem still happens by simply putting the computer to sleep using the system menu and leaving the lid open. I could try to have a look inside the machine when I get the correct screwdriver to see if there is a problem with the battery.
