I have an old fleece and nylon shell reversible pullover and the fleece side pocket zipper kind of broke, by the zipper head braking in half and coming off the zipper. I have the pieces. can anything be done by me? this zipper is 4" long and turquoise. this is probably an 80's jacket (turquois shell and fuscia fleece, 1/4 zip)

There are a number of things that can go wrong with a zipper. Before you get worried, check the zipper for debris or dirt, cleaning and lubricating a zipper can work wonders. If that doesn't work, use our Zipper Identification tool to determine what type of zipper you have, then go through the diagnosis steps to determine what is wrong and how to fix it!

I have done many of my own repairs and in the old days (late 70's early 80's) made most of my own Gore-Tex and pile clothing. I also have had Patagonia replace a fair number of zippers (up to three on one jacket and two on a pile vest, plus a few others). I have had no problem with them fixing their products at all. At this point, some of my repairs are easier to do myself since 1) the piece is so old and beat up, it isn't worth the price of mailing to Patagonia, but I still use it; 2) it is cheaper to buy a zipper and spend an hour replacing it than sending it back. My two cents..... Tobin Kelley

I'm sure Patagonia means well, and I don't expect Patagonia to be responsible for fixing geat that I trashed, or that I can fix myself for $5. However, these tweets and ifixit website imply that I should be responsible for gear repairs based on the premise that I could jury-rig a repair in the mountains. Let's face it though: if I pay $500 for a ski jacket and the zipper breaks, Patagonia needs to step up and hold up its end of the customer satisfaction bargain and fix it for me. Sorry, Patagonia!

I agree is this some sort of scheme to bail out on them fixing stuff? Is there gear starting to be made cheap that we should be prepared for it to break?

Jason, I don't believe this site is run by Patagonia and I am sure they are not trying to get out of repairing a garment. Try this link to see about repairs: http://www.patagonia.com/us/patagonia.go...

I'm sure there a cheap Knock off & always will be. I've found quality company;s stand behind their products. I think if it's made in Canada we should stand behind it It's likely well made & will last. My 2 cents worth.
