Power Supply for Imac 24"

I am needing to replace my power supply in my iMac I think. Can anyone point me to a guide for that and a place to order the part?

My situation is this. Over the summer, my comp crashed. Determined it was the hard drive. Replaced it. Up and running again, but since then I have noticed the power supply running extremely hot. Gets up to 93º C under light loads, with fans at full speed. I presume the heat is why my hard drive crashed.

Any feedback on the situation?

Hello!

Have you run Apple Hardware Test yet on the machine? This test is included on one of the DVDs that came with your computer. This may help further diagnose. However the power supply certainly shouldn't be that hot!!!

iFixit does not yet have a guide for this machine. You can use the guide for the 20" counterpart to get where you need to go.

The part you need depends on your machine. If you do not know which machine you have, check out the ID Your Mac page. If you have a 2.4 or 2.8 GHz (EMC 2134), your part number is 661-4478. If you have a 2.8 or 3.06 GHz (EMC 2211), your part number is 661-4665. Plug these numbers into the search box in the upper right corner of Apple Palace to find your part!

I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Yes, I did run the Apple Hardware Test, both basic and extended, with no problems showing in the results. But as you say, the power supply definitely should not be that hot! I am hoping replacing it will fix this issue. I don't want to run it with those temps for long for fear that my hard drive will fry again.

BTW, all my other temps show fairly normal. Ambient is always around 26-27º. CPUs are generally in the 60s. And my hard drive hasn't peaked over 50º since replacing it. Usually only gets up to 47º when the power supply gets up to its peak.

Thanks for the links. I have the 2.8ghz EMC 2134. I'll look into ordering a replacement part.

The overheating of the power unit in your iMac is due to overload from other units.

Since Hard disk has been replaced possible Processors are about to call it a day.

Good luck,

SAO
