Keyboard only works in single user mode

Hi there, I have a MacBook where trackpad is the only part that works in snow leopard. In EFI boot selection the mouse click will work to select the drive.

Keyboard works in single user mode only.

USB mouse does not click in the OS either.

I pulled the drive and connected it to another machine via USB where it worked correctly.

I reinstalled snow leopard over the existing install, same result.

I disconnect the topcase and shorted the power pins, USB mouse (still no click)

I cannot understand why it is failing to work. Are AppleUsbTopcase.kext and IOUSBFamily.kext replaced during an archive and install, I have repaired permissions also.

I am going to try and manually copy the drivers over to /System/Library/Extensions on the other machine as a last resort and fix permissions in the meantime.

This really has me stumped. Is there anything else I can try?
