AFAIK NO - the drive is Proprietary* (6 Gb/s)- (MLC) High-Performance Sync-NAND. Apple does not intend for one to upgrade the storage after purchase, OWC has found a 3rd party solution. OWC also has an external case for your old Flash Drive so you can transfer (clone) your files, and keep it for backup (the used value of these drives will probably not be high due to a very limited market).

It does look like OWC has several solutions/options including 240 GB and 480 GB, and, Amazon sells Transcend 240 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB ! Thanks for the tip!

Why would you like to spend a lot of money on a slow OWC SSD? Why not buy an adapter from Aliexpress for 2,5 USD and buy an industry-standard SSD. (Also for any other non soldered SSD)

While someone could argue that with a PCIe/NVMe interfaced drive that's not even possible here as this drive is a custom mSATA drive. The I/O speed can't exceed 6.0 Gb/s as thats the limits of the I/O connection!

I still think going with a real Apple, OWC or Transcend SSD drive is still better given the problems you face trying to force fit these fangled adapters and M.2 SSD. I've got a drawer full of dead adapters and M.2 SSD's!
