Yes, your Inspiron 14R battery will wear out over time. If fact all laptop batteries do. A decent quality one like the ones from Dell will last about 2-3 years and are only rated for about 500 charges till a new one will be needed. Dell charges around about $120 for a replacement and use UL rated for cells safety.

The really cheap replacement batteries that are sold on Amazon are cheaper than Dell's because they only last about a year and don't store as much power either. The typical Amazon price is around $40 and the cells will not be UL rated for safety.

When I bough my Inspiron 14R battery I got one that should last 3 years or more and packs about 30% more power than anybody else for about $75. The battery is rated at 5800mAh/63Wh vs 4400mAh 47Wh for Amazon batteries.

I have been using this battery for about 1 year now and still get about 4-5 hours or run time in "Balanced Mode" which is great! Also the cells are from Panasonic and are UL1642 rated for safety, so pound for pound, at $75, I think I got one of the best batteries / value out there.

The X on battery means that your battery has been expired so you need to get the new replacement battery first or you can also try by checking its driver but most probably you have to go for new replacement battery.
