I was wondering if there was a way to replace just the glass on the 5th generation iPod? I know it is possible for the White OEM iPhone 4 screens, White and Black OEM iPhone 4s screens, and both OEM iPhone 5 screens, but I haven't tried to separate an iPod touch 5 screen. Has anyone attempted this or know how to do it?
Why cant Apple just do the same type of heat activated adhesive as Samsung's galaxy s3? Everything would be so much easier.

It is possible but very difficult and not economical to do for a single repair. You might as well trade the broken display for a good one, let them do the difficult job.

No, the LCD, digitizer and glass are fused together on the: iPhone (original), iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), iPod nano (6th generation), iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (5th generation)

Yes it is possible to separate the glass. It separates just like the other ipod models and iphone 4 and 5. You can simply heat it and seperate with molybdenum wire. Though unless you are doing a lot of them it is better to recycle the assembly and buy a new one. This is only because they are so inexpensive.
