My nikon D5100 blow air from viewfinder

Hi,

i've recently bought a new Nikon D5100 camera with 18-105 vr kit len and i've noticed that when going down with the zoom ring, also from 35 to 18 mm, air blows through the viewfinder to my eye. Somebody found the same problem? The vendor replaced initially a camera with another, that has the same, identical problem. Maybe it's a problem related to quality building? It's strange that Nikon make a similar mistake.

Thanks

Hi,

this is a usual issue with zoom lenses, due to the extension of the lens/ the movement of the optical elements, air will move inside the camera and as the air doesn't compress itself much, it takes the most easy way out and as the mount is screwed fast, the viewfinder is the easiest way out. This happen to every brand and does only depend on how much the lens extends, for example with the Canon 28 300 L there is pretty much air movement.

Thank you for the answer.

I know that a zoom lens blows a lot of air when compressing, but i can't understand why the air must blow out from the internal part of the viewfinder and not, for example, from the side. The blow of fresh air causes tears to my eyes, and it's very annoying for me. In addition to this, another D5100 in the same vendor has the same air blowing, but much, much less! With my camera, if i scale zoom from 35 to 18 mm i can feel the blow, while with the camera exposed (that is not for sale) you can hear the same blow only if you force zoom from 105 to 18!

In conclusion: i think that a little amount of air blowing is normal for zoom lenses, but not like my camera!!
