Most software is available for download at HP.Com but yours is not.
According to www.hp.com you will need to order the driver CD from them. It shows the scanner is usable on your machine through USB. So go to www.hp.com and select "support and drivers" tab and put in your scanner model number then press the "go" button next to where you put in the model. On the next window select which scanner you have and that will open the next window. Select "Mac OS X" , which will take you to a selection of USA or Canada. After you choose click "Submit" and then fill out the ordering info. They will send you the latest CD by mail. It will run around $11.
There may be other sites that have the software listed but to be sure you get what you need I suggest doing it with HP.Com.

Also go to under your apple on your menu bar and tell it to do "Software Update" for your system to bring it more current.

You most likely do have the proper driver installed to operate it. So to the manufacters web site and look for Support. See if you can find, download and install their latest driver for your scanner. Also go under the Apple in the upper left hand corner to Software update and download the latest updates to your system. Keep doing this until there are no more updates.

Try this, it worked with a hp 5470C on OS 10.5. There is a download for 10.4.
Follow the instructions from the site. Don't download the SDK files only the binary files.
