Just a quick note: Command + R only works with OS X 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9. Versions of OS X prior to 10.7 will require the use of a start up install disk.

If you have 2009 model then you should have a Recovery partition in it if it was installed correctly. If you have tried holding down the Command and R keys while restarting and it does not go to the recovery partition, then something is wrong.

Try restarting by holding down the Option key. If there is a Recovery partition, it will show up then.
