Daniel Helms, anytime you have a certain area on the touch screen that is unresponsive, suspect the digitizer. It is not always necessary to have a cracked, or otherwise damaged digitizer. It is good practice to try a factory reset etc, but if this does not work, replace the digitizer/display assembly. Since the digitizer and the LCD are fused together, you will require a LCD separator and other tools to repair it. Replace the complete assembly will make the task easier. Hope this helps, good luck.
