翻译的四原则
由你自己来翻译——请不要复制粘贴机译——你明显比机器聪明。
现代非正式风格——书写风格随意得就像你和你的朋友解释如何换电灯泡一样。
完整和准确——确保你翻译了所有的文字，转换了所有的测量数据，调查研究了所有的技术专业词汇等等。
容易理解的——比如，你的邻居、侄女、或爷爷能理解吗？
翻译 iFixit 的不同部分
维基可以在iFixit网站直接翻译。你只需要创建一个 iFixit 用户账户。如果你也想翻译指南， 可以发送邮件到 yuting@ifixit.com 介绍一下自己（Yuting 会提前列队欢迎你加入iFixit大家庭），加入iFixit的翻译项目。我们将会和你保持联系。
我们使用Crowdin来翻译网站基本构架，如果你想加入，需要创建Crowdin账户Crowdin 使用指南。
流畅度
在开始之前，有几个问题你要问自己：你使用本语言说、读、写有多高的频率？你能够进行一个哲学的对话吗？能观看纪录片吗？能读一本小说吗？如果对任何这些问题的答案都是否定的话，那也没关系。我们不要求翻译者接受任何正式的培训，但我们要求你们对待翻译工作要认真负责。
如果你没有这方面的专业知识，一定要研究术语或请教此领域的专业人士。如果你为了翻译一个特定的短语或术语而苦恼，确保要请教其他译者的意见。
机器翻译
机译是由电脑而不是由人翻译的——通常使用谷歌或百度翻译。他们很快也很便捷。但事实上，我们网站上也有一个机译的按钮用来翻译网站上还未被人翻译的部分。我们对待机译的态度是一个空白填补者，而不是最终解决方案。即使是最好的机译也有出错的时候。人类翻译比较而言，更精准。所以仅仅把机器翻译作为参考吧，全部使用机译将不会获得任何信誉积分。
简而言之：你的大脑才是最强的！
风格
非正式与正式
如有疑问，请使用正式用语。用你的最佳判断去解释一个短语。如果一个短语听起来是非常友好和随意的，那么使用非正式、口语化的词汇也是可以的。
现代与传统
和传统习语相比较，应多使用现代术语和短语。译者应力求达到翻译所涉及主题的用语要与时俱进。
个人与通用
有时，我们在iFixit网站上使用丰富多彩且非正式的语言，它们是很难翻译的。译者应该努力找到相匹配的基调，并且尽可能接近原始内容。而不是仅仅字对字的翻译，翻译的目标应该寻找原始风格和意蕴，并在目标语言中模仿，使用匹配要点的单词和短语。
风格
习语
当你翻译时，你可能会遇到一些习语——如双关语、特定文化的措辞和比喻表达。像“It's raining cats and dogs”（下倾盆大雨了）或 "Catch us on the flipside”（待会儿见）两个短语如果仅从字面翻译就没有任何意义。相反地，如果能找到等效或类似的表达来替换就好多了。如果不能找到类似的词组，译者应该选择一个能够表达相同或相近意思的词组或句子，即使你选择的语言没有原来语言那么丰富多彩，也是能够接受的。
iFixit
这便是我们公司了！iFixit总是会写成 "iFixit", 并且不应该被翻译。同样的是，如果你看到了Dozuki，那也是我们公司。“Dozuki"也不用翻译。
恰当的名词
- 人名：如果目标语言属于非拉丁语系，一定要翻译人名，使用最接近的发音来翻译。
- 地名：使用你的目标语言中最常用的叫法。如果你的用语中没有这个名字，使用最接近的发音来翻译。
标点符号
试着找到能最大提高可读性的标点符号，并且尽量保持接近原文意思。“总是使用目标语言的标点符号”。
字符集
请使用标准Unicode字符，并避免那些适用于特定平台的字符。
计量单位
你可以转换计量单位，使读者更容易理解。我们建议使用谷歌单位转换工具。
翻译指南和维基页面
当翻译iFixit.com网站上的指南时，直奔要翻译的指南，并使用右上角的“翻译”按钮，进入翻译指南菜单。在那里，你可以选择你的目标语言。首先，翻译指南信息，然后翻译指南步骤。如果你不是很清楚如何翻译一些指南步骤里的内容，请参考英语步骤中的上下文和图片。
维基页面的（如本页面）翻译更是简介明了。直接去你想翻译的维基页面，选择属于你的具有国旗标识的目标语言，并在右上角点击“翻译”按钮。在页面右侧提供你的翻译。当选择你要翻译的维基页面时，记住什么和你的读者相关。例如，“职业”页面，可能和国际用户并不相关。
翻译链接
首先，检查这个链接对于非英语使用者是否有用——如果没用，请自行上网找一些相似的链接。
最简单的翻译链接的方式就是添加一个新的。你可以点击 “插入一个链接”。在弹出的上部窗口添加 URL 链接。在下部窗口"可以"输入文字链接。然后点击保存"插入链接“ 。
专业建议: 加入魔术编码（不适用引号）: "|new_window=true" 。这样你的链接就会在一个新的窗口打开，读者还能回到之前的文章。

Très bon tuto, très complet, bravo !
Juste deux toutes petites remarques :
1) Dans la partie "J'ai %1 de réputation," la première phrase devrait indiquer "%1 supplée à un nombre" et non pas "suppléé."
2) Le titre suivant, "Voici un %1lien%2 vers Google," est au même niveau hiérarchique que "Ce qu'il ne faut pas traduire," dont il est pourtant (à mon humble avis) une sous-partie.

Hi, I am from South East Asian country , Malaysia to be precise. I hope to able to translate into my mother tongue Bahasa Malaysia similar to Indonesian. So if there is a team or anyone translating into the language, I'm in. If not I will try to start doing this if permitted. We can work to gain wider users by translating into natives. We have not yet started localizing the iFixit Guides and Wikis into your language, I would suggest you to fill in ++this form++ to be one of the first to be contacted as soon as we get started and bring forward our mission to share how to fix anything with the entire world.
However, a team of volunteers has already started localizing the iFixit user interface into Indonesian, so maybe you feel prepared to help there? We are using an open web translation software which is called "Crowdin". If you'd like to begin right away and take a look, you can just follow this link and create an account to start translating: https://crowdin.net/project/ifixit++, but I would recommend that you read the iFixit translator guidelines first: Translator Guidelines Crowdin. Thank you for the question and spending your time to translate our website. Regarding the website update of your translation, if you mention about Airport Time Capsule, up to Step 5 is translated so far. In order to be reflected on our website, the whole steps need to be done. If you mention about JBL Flip 4, it looks the whole contents are done but “Guide Prerequisite” which means “Shell Replacement” has to be translated also. Does this make sense? Please feel free to ask me if you have any further questions! Thanks!

Hi! I “picked up” American English about 30 something years ago! It’s still my favorite language. I don’t write much that’s why I give so many spelling errors, but since I know how to use a dictionary (besides the of autocorrection), errors come down to zero. My question is, do you guys reward translators with a screw driver? :)

Hi! Thanks a lot for thinking about becoming an iFixit translator! I wouldn’t consider your spelling errors in English a problem, as long as you don’t make them in your native language / the target language you’d like to translate to from English? The most important would be that you understand the original English text, also if there are buns for example, and have great ideas on how to get their meaning accross in the target language or find other funny expressions that fit. We’d usually reach out to our contributors offering the first gift when they gained around 500 reputation points, if ever we forgot you, don’t hesitate to get back to me at translate@ifixit.com.

Ainda não começamos a realizar a localização dos guias iFixit para a língua portuguesa, mas a tradução das wikis já deve estar disponível para você. Você pode encontrar uma lista de wikis requisitadas que estão à espera de uma tradução aqui: ++https://en.ifixit.com/Translate?filter=w...). Para começar a traduzir, mude a configuração do idioma para "PT" no topo à direita e o botão "edit" ou "translate" se transforma automaticamente em um botão chamado "INICIAR TRADUÇÃO".

Arabic is indeed on top of the list of languages we'd like to take a deeper look into within the following years. We currently support an NGO with Arabic Translations: https://noplacelikehome.dozuki.com. Maybe you’d like to contribute to this?
