Computer or Windows not turning on
When pressing the power button does nothing but disappoint you.
Restart computer
Sometimes all it takes is a restart for the computer to boot up back to normal. To restart your Sony Vaio when it’s unresponsive, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Once it is powered off, press the power button again to turn it on.
Defective hard drive
When restarting the device doesn’t work, it tends to suggest a hard drive failure. When the hard drive fails, reboot the computer and go into the basic input/output system (BIOS) by holding the Delete key as it’s turning on. Within the BIOS, by using the arrow keys on your keyboard, go down to “Standard CMOS Features” and select the Enter key. Your hard drive should appear in a list designated as “IDE Channel # Master” or “IDE Channel # Slave”. If your hard drive does not appear on the list, then it’s time to replace your hard drive.
Broken hardware button keys
When tapping on the hardware buttons, they do not function as they are intended to.
Clear dust from keys
Dust is the enemy of button keys on any device. In order to clear any visual or hidden dust particles, use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust out of the button socket.
Broken button key
If the button does not click or actuate, it may be time to replace the button.
Device will not power on
When you press the power or Windows buttons, the device will not power on.
Not charged/plugged in
Make sure that the device is charged or has the charger plugged in. Another possible explanation behind this is that the charging cable is not fully connected to the charging port. A loose cable will not charge the device.
Outlet Malfunction
The outlet your charging cable is plugged into might not be properly working. Check with another electrical outlet to see if the device begins charging.
Faulty/Dead Battery
If the power adapter is plugged in, the desktop should still be functioning and will say that no battery is detected. If the desktop does not turn on when the adapter is connected, the problem will not be with the battery.
Vaio does not have audio/sound
When you attempt to change the volume, the stereo speakers will not respond.
Incorrect Settings
Make sure that the volume is not too low or on mute within the settings. You can check these settings by
Audio Driver Not Updated
Make sure that the newest audio driver updates are installed into your desktop.
Fan is making noise or not working
When the computer runs, a questionable spinning noise runs.
Update Drivers
Fan noise may be misinterpreted for hard drive noise. Determine the source of the noise. Remove everything from the device. Mute the device and determine if the problem is speaker related. Check all fan vents to hear if the noise is any louder from any of them.
If the fan noise is coming from the vent, download and install any available BIOS update. Go to Drivers and Software” from Sony eSupport.
If the sound continues, if other sounds occur from the fan location, or if the fan stops working altogether after the BIOS update, you may have to replace the fan.
