PlayStation 3 Super Slim Troubleshooting

Your Playstation 3 Super Slim does not start up correctly.

If the PS3 stopped starting up after a power surge or shortage, the device may have been damaged and will need a repair.

Check to make sure your PS3 model is made for your country. If it is made for a different country or region, it may have different power specifications.

Enter Safe Mode by holding down the power button until you hear three beeps. Select "Restore File System." This will attempt to repair any damaged files saved onto the hard drive that may be causing the issue.

NOTE: You may want to back up your PS3 on a removable storage device before performing this last step, since this option will delete all data on the PS3 to revert it to it's factory settings.

If this last option does not work, your device may need a repair.

If your PS3 shuts down after 10 seconds, there is a hardware issue with the PSU that cannot be resolved. The device will need a repair.

The Playstation freezes on the XMB.

Turn off your PS3. Enter Safe Mode by holding down the power button until you hear three beeps. Select "Restore File System." This will attempt to repair any damaged files saved onto the hard drive that may be causing the issue.

The optical drive of the Playstation 3 Super Slim is not working

Your disc maybe dirty. Insert a different disc to see if the issue exists across multiple discs. If the device reads this disc, clean the original one, then reinsert it into the Playstation 3 Super Slim.

If this last option does not work, the laser lens on your device may need to be replaced or repaired.

General Network Troubleshooting

Navigate with the XMB to Setting -> Network -> Test Connection. Any network connection issues should come up with an option to troubleshoot.

Turn off and unplug all network devices, including any wireless access points, modems, and routers. Leave these unplugged for two minutes. Then, turn them back on, and wait for them to cycle through their startup. Once the internet is back up, try connecting only the Playstation 3 Super Slim to the network.

Test to see if your home network is working properly by connecting from a computer. If it is not, you will need to contact your internet service provider to resolve the issue.

If you can connect to the internet but not PSN, you may need to open ports in your modem's settings. The ports that are needed open are TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080 and UDP: 3478, 3479.

If you have a modem that "filters" all MAC addresses, you will need to manually enter the PS3's MAC address as an allowed device. Your PS3's MAC address can be found as follows: go to the XMB home menu -> Settings -> System Settings and press the X button. Scroll until you see System Information and press the X Button.

General problems with the display of a Playstation 3 Super Slim.

Make sure that the display cable is connected properly.

Check the display settings on your Playstation 3 Super Slim . From your XMB, go to Settings -> Display. Check that the correct resolution is selected.

Restarting the system will allow the system to reidentify the connected devices.

Hard drive is not allowing system to boot or correct save files

NOTE: To remove the HDD bay cover, do not attempt to pry it off as the guide says, instead, slide the cover towards the back of the device, then pull the cover off.
