Novatel MiFi 2 4G LTE Hotspot Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose user-observed problems with the Novatel MiFi 2 4G LTE Hotspot.
Device won't power on
The device will not turn on after pressing the power button.
Battery is not charged
Make sure that the device has enough battery to turn on. Even if you think the device is fully charged, double check by plugging in the charger into the device and giving it time to fully charge. When the device is charged, unplug the charger and press the power button. If the device does not charge, you may need a replacement charger.
Faulty battery
Make sure that the charger is plugged into the device. If the device only turns on when it is connected to the charger, then the problem is a faulty battery. Replace the battery following this guide.
Device shuts off on its own
While using the device, it turns off without having low battery issues.
Device needs to be reset
If your device turns off on its own once, you may need to reset it in order for it to turn back on and work properly. In order to reset your device, you will need to locate the “RESET” hole on the back left of your device. Once you locate the small hole to the left of the word “RESET” printed on the back of your device, you will need to insert a small instrument into the hole. A small, thin instrument or household item (i.e. paperclip, safety pin) will suffice. When inserting the thin instrument into the reset hole, you will feel it click. This click is indicative that the device has reset. If the device does not power on by itself after clicking to reset, push the power button.
Faulty battery
If your device is turning off on its own, you may need to replace the battery altogether. Follow this guide.
Usage meter stops working (reads 0.0)
While using the device, the usage meter stops working or reads “0.0”.
Device needs to be reset
If you find that your device has a faulty usage meter, in which it may read 0.0 or stops working as a whole, you can reset your device. In order to do so, In order to reset your device, you will need to locate the “RESET” hole on the back left of your device. Once you locate the small hole to the left of the word “RESET” printed on the back of your device, you will need to insert a small instrument into the hole. A small, thin instrument or household item (i.e. paperclip, safety pin) will suffice. When inserting the thin instrument into the reset hole, you will feel it click. This click is indicative that the device has reset. If the device does not power on by itself after clicking to reset, push the power button.
Device connection drops approximately every 3 minutes
While using the device, the connection between the hotspot and your wireless device continuously drops.
Devices need to be closer together
If you find the connection between the hotspot and your wireless device to be inconsistent or dropping during use, you may need to move your devices closer to one another. Moving devices closer to each other will make connecting the wireless devices easier. Check the connection after moving the devices close to one another.
Poor service status in your area
If you find that the connection between the hotspot and your wireless device is continuously dropping even when the devices are close together, you may need to contact AT&T. Call the AT&T customer service line (1-800-331-0500) in order to get in touch with an AT&T representative. Explain to them that your device’s connection is faulty and ask them to check the service in your area. If the service in your area is poor, you may need to relocate to a location with better service in order to effectively use your hotspot device.
Hotspot device does not recognize other devices to connect
While trying to connect the hotspot to other devices, the hotspot does not recognize any devices it can connect to.
Device needs to be reset
If you find that your hotspot device will not connect to your wireless device, you may need to reset your hotspot. In order to reset your device, you will need to locate the “RESET” hole on the back left of your device. Once you locate the small hole to the left of the word “RESET” printed on the back of your device, you will need to insert a small instrument into the hole. A small, thin instrument or household item (i.e. paperclip, safety pin) will suffice. When inserting the thin instrument into the reset hole, you will feel it click. This click is indicative that the device has reset. If the device does not power on by itself after clicking to reset, push the power button.
Faulty wireless device wifi
If you find that your wireless device is still not connecting to the hotspot, you may need to reset the wifi on your wireless device. In order to do this, locate the “wifi” setting on your wireless device. To turn the wifi off, you will need to press “turn off wifi” or your device’s equivalent to this option. After you turn your device’s wifi off, turn it back on again by connecting to the hotspot’s wifi. Click the hotspot’s wifi when it appears under the wifi options on your wireless device to connect the two devices.
Wireless device needs to be reset
If you still find that your wireless device is not pairing, this time try resetting the wireless device and/or the device’s bluetooth and wifi through the “settings” option.
