HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b142dx Troubleshooting
This ergonomic design model was released by HP in October of 2013. The lightweight, semi-portable model is very affordable, but is still prone to the troubles shown below.
Computer Won't Turn On ¶
Despite your best efforts, your laptop will not turn on.
Faulty Battery ¶
To ensure the battery is at fault, see our HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b142 dx Battery Replacement guide and follow the steps. If the battery is confirmed to be inoperable, order and install a new battery.
Impaired Charger ¶
If the laptop will not turn on using the above method, it is likely that the charger is broken. In order to test the battery for sure, consider purchasing a replacement charger.
Defective Motherboard ¶
If none of the above methods resolve the issue, it is likely the motherboard is at fault. A replacement motherboard must be installed in order to resume normal operation.
Screen Problems ¶
‘’ The screen won’t turn on, isn’t bright enough, or is discolored in certain areas. ‘’
Faulty or Dead Pixels ¶
If the pixels are dead you can find software or websites, such as JScreenfix and UDPixel, that will use software to run bright, intense images that will attempt to reset the pixels. As a last resort method, take a rubber eraser and gently pressing the discolored pixels; this may return the pixels to their proper color.
Black Screen ¶
Plug your laptop in an external monitor to see if the screen displays there. If it does not, your drivers need to be updated. If the screen does show up on the external monitor, then the screen is broken and needs to be replaced. See our HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b142dx Screen Replacement guide for details.
Limited WiFi ¶
WiFi initially connects well, but will shortly have "limited connectivity" or lose connection altogether.
Driver Malfunctioning ¶
If the WiFi is not maintaining connection after initially having a strong, secure connection, it is likely that the driver just needs to be reset.
Outdated Software ¶

Broken WiFi Module/Antenna ¶
If the Wifi module is broken or appears damaged, a replacement can be ordered at the HP home page or by searching web for the needed device.
Keyboard Malfunctions ¶
Fn key is not working and I cannot activate functions on function keys F1-F12.
Irresponsive Function Button ¶
Turn off your laptop. Turn it on and tap the “Esc” key repeatedly to enter the Start-up Menu. Click F10 to open the Bios option. Navigate through the Bios menu using the left or right arrow keys. Go under Action Keys tab and select “Enable”.
Slow Response to Key Press ¶
Turn on your laptop and press the esc key repeatedly to enter the Start-up Menu. Follow the steps in this link HP G62-223CL Troubleshooting .
