[flag|student_wiki] == Computer not powering on == ''When the power button is pressed, the screen does not turn on and there are no signs of it being on.'' === No battery charge === If you are not sure whether the device is charged up or not, leave the computer plugged in for about 1 hour and try powering it up again. === Dead battery === Battery is unable to charge due to internal issues. It needs to be replaced. Link below directs you to the solution guide. [guide|131143] === Bad Charger === Charger is not delivering power to the device; there might be internal issues or the charger is inadequately connected. Check if the charging cable is fully connected to the transformer (the big box in your charger) and the computer first. == Screen not powering on == ''Computer shows signs of being on, but the screen remains turned off.'' === Drivers not updated === If the computer drivers for the display are not updated, first find an HDMI cable and a secondary screen (i.e. another computer monitor or a TV), and plug the cable into the ports on each device. You should see your computer display on the secondary screen. Next, go to settings in your computer by searching “***settings***” in the windows search bar. Click “***Update and security***”, and the first section should indicate whether you have an update available or if the computer is up to date. If the computer needs an update, make sure you ***download*** the update and it will later prompt you to restart to update once downloaded. If the computer is up to date, check for updates again as it may not have refreshed the updates on its own. If no updates are available, restart the computer and check if the screen lights up on its own. === Internal and/or external screen damage === Screen is visibly or internally damaged by impact, an electronic flaw, or wearing off of components. Link below directs you to the solution guide. [guide|131820] == Touchpad not working == ''When using the touchpad, the cursor does not move on screen.'' === Touchpad is disabled === The laptop has a button that enables and disables the touchpad which may have been accidentally clicked at any moment in time. In order to turn it back on, hold down the ***''Fn''*** key on the bottom left and press ***''F6''***. If this method works, the cursor should now move on screen when using the touchpad. === Touchpad is broken === Although unlikely, it is possible that the touchpad is broken. This issue could have arisen if the laptop was dropped or damaged in any way. Trapped particles could have also caused the touchpad to malfunction. In this case, the touchpad will have to be replaced. See the link below to direct you to the solution guide [guide|131821] == Computer is overheating == ''Computer is heating more than usual, potentially causing internal errors and “scary” sounds.'' === A vent is blocked === A possible problem for overheating is covering the vents. The internal fan that cools the central processing unit (CPU) is working, but the hot air is not allowed to exit the case, causing heat to build up and damage internal components. Make sure all vents are cleared. It can be done by using vacuum cleaner, wiper or any air blowing devices. If you used the wiper, be sure to dry it first before you put it in. All vents can be found on the back of the computer; make sure they are clear of dust and/or any blockages. == Computer Runs Slow == ''If your computer is showing symptoms of running slow, tabs may load slowly, the cursor is slow to respond to touch, and/or files take excessive amounts of time to open.'' === Storage capacity maxed out === Normally, a computer starts to slow down when its storage capacity is reaching a maximum. If you want to speed your laptop up, delete unneeded files or move files to an external hard drive. === Hard drive broken === Another possible issue could be a hard drive malfunction. A variety of things could cause this including any impact to the laptop. If this is the case, the hard drive likely needs to be replaced. The link below directs you to the solution guide. [guide|131902] === Memory RAM Card Damaged === A computer may also run slow if the internal memory card is damaged. If you think this is the case, the card will likely have to be replaced. To replace the memory card, please see the guide linked below on how to replace the memory RAM card. [guide|131818]
