Canon Vixia HF R500 Troubleshooting

Pressing the power button does not power on the camera.

The most common cause of a blank screen is an uncharged or expired battery. First, plug your camera into a power source to determine if the battery is simply dead. If this does not fix the problem, it may be necessary to replace the battery with a new one.

The camera should only be charged between 40°F and 90°F. Attempting to charge the battery in extreme temperatures can impair the ability of the battery to take a charge.

The battery may not receive a charge when you plug it into a power source. This could be the result of a broken charging port.

When the camera is powered, no picture appears on the screen.

If your battery is charged and the camera is powered, a blank screen could result from poor or faulty connection between the camera and the screen. The camera may need to be disassembled and the connections between the camera and screen checked.

If the camera is powered and the connection between the camera and screen is functional, the screen on your camera may be faulty and require replacement.

The built in audio is of a poor quality or non existent.

Check the slot at the top of the camera for blockages or debris that could be distorting or blocking sound.

Listen to recorded footage on your computer to make sure the microphone is recording sound. This will determine whether the issue is with your speaker or microphone.

If the videos recorded with your camera play audio when viewed on your computer, the audio issues are caused by your speaker and it will need to be replaced.

Tripod will not securely attach to camera.

The threads on the bottom of the camera used to attach a tripod are made of plastic and are commonly stripped after repeated use and over tightening. If a tripod will not securely screw into your camera, the threads will need to be replaced.

The buttons on the camera do not function properly.

Debris may be stuck underneath the buttons on your camera causing them to be stuck in the down position. It may be necessary to disassemble your camera to clear any foreign objects.

The buttons on your camera may be damaged and in need or replacement.
