Acer Aspire Model 5741-5698 Troubleshooting
This troubleshooting page will help you diagnose problems with the Acer Aspire model 5741-5698.
Battery Will Not Hold Charge
Your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 only charges up to a specific, low percentage.
Battery Needs to be Reset
Turn off the computer completely and remove the battery. Then, push and hold the power button for two minutes to drain any residual voltage in the system.

Frozen Computer
Your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 freezes up during intensive use.
Low GB RAM Storage
If your Acer Aspire has an old, low GB RAM storage, it will not be able to handle many programs at the same time. We suggest replacing older RAM chips with higher GB RAM to enhance the performance of the laptop. Follow our RAM replacement guide here.
Can’t Connect to WIFI
Your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 has trouble connecting to wireless internet.
Wireless Router or Modem is Malfunctioning
Reset your wireless router and modem.

A wireless connectivity issue in your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 may be caused by a damaged or failing PCI Express Mini due to prolonged use. If this is the case and all other troubleshooting fails, replace your WLAN Card.
Computer Shutdown with Overheat Warning

Intensive Use in Hot Environment
The computer has simply heated up after intensive use in a hot environment. Allow the laptop to sit in a cool space for at least 30 minutes before continued use.
Dust Accumulation in Cooling Fan
Over time, dust has accumulated within the cooling fan housing causing a loss in its performance and overheating. Use a bottle of canned air to clean out the cooling fan housing, located on the bottom side of the laptop to the lower right of the battery.
CD Player Not Working
Your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 CD player no longer works correctly.

Computer Display Problem
Your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 either displays an all black or dead screen so you cannot see anything on the screen
Low Display Brightness Levels
Hold the <fn> key and then press the left directional arrow to increase the brightness of the display.
Display Settings have been Altered
Factory reset your Acer Aspire 5741-5698 by resetting the laptop, then holding both the <Alt> and <f10> keys when the Acer logo appears on the screen. Follow the instructions on the menu that pops up after Windows is done loading your files to restore your computer to factory default settings.
Backlight is Broken or Malfunctioning
First, we would recommend plugging the computer into a TV or similar display using an HDMI cable. If the connected display is at full brightness and the problem persists, then there is likely an issue with the computer’s hardware. You may need to replace the backlight of the display.
Motherboard is Broken or Malfunctioning
If replacing the backlight of the display fails, the motherboard is likely the location of the issue. You may need to replace the motherboard.
