However, it's possible you can get it repaired by an unauthorized repair person for less than paying apple so I'd take it to someone who deals with it first to get an estimate to see what your best bet is.
With no cables attached to the ipod and itunes installed: 1. Hold wake/sleep button down until prompted to slide to off to power down. 2. Slide to off with no cables attached. 3. Hold home button and attach cable to computer ipod should automatically turn on. 4. Click on restore ipod option itunes will prompt you for. 5. Wait for itunes to tell you it is done restoring the ipod.
