I had a very similar problem with a 93 sport, (I know different components from a 93 to 97) that being said I also thought electrical problem turns out it was actually a fuel pump. Same thing no spark, shrader valve had fuel pressure ect. make sure to check your fuel pressure with an actual gauge it needs to be something like 30+. Could save you some time considering the fuel gauge gets its reading off of the fuel pump assembly, so everything that looks like a electrical problem can also be a fuel problem, and the intermittent starting times make me wonder.. Also the engine control module will show up almost the same way, they are not very expensive you could try changing it and see what happens... running a 94 wrangler , 37's no lift (high fender conversion), ford 8.8 4.88's posi, lincoln locked in the front... soon to come 300 doubler ;-) gears gears gears
If he/she has to many pics on it both cameras will act like they are not working check how many he/she has. Then restore the phone but don't restore to back up check to see if the cameras work. Then proceed to changing HW out
1) replace the little white dot also known as a water indicator on the middle screw of the right side of the logic board, and take it to a different apple store and claim your phone stopped working. I.E. get a new phone under warranty. 2) replace the screen/digitizer and then see what happens... since the cables are very finicky to start with something may have been messed up when you disconnected them. trust me when i say you don't always have to see damage for it to be there.
I just played with my own ipod 4g (original headphones and other) if the ear phones are not pushed all the way in and i mean to the last click they only play out of one side, I don't mean to be insulting but if you have had two ipods with the same problem i don't think the problem is with the ipod... ;-/
Be sure you want to undertake this adventure before you start. tools you will need. heat gun, utility knife, very small philips head screwdriver the flex cable is more than likely the problem if the flexibility is gone. you can buy them online for about 5$ but if your going to go to the trouble you should just replace everything, flex cable and button. total cost 15$ because you need to get new tape/glue strips to hold the screen down. there is a repair guide on here for you to follow iPod Touch 4th Generation Home Button Ribbon Cable Replacement the cable is underneath the mid plate
