I keep a copy of Snow Leopard install DVD on a flash drive just in case of problems, Have you tried force booting from the original install disc that came with your iMac. There seems to be many problems arising with Lion...Personally I'm staying with Snow Leopard until things get ironed out by Apple. (lists what is loading during startup, as opposed to the spinning icon with grey screen) Command+S = Single user mode (used for troubleshooting in most cases) Also once you get it up and running check for firmware updates that are available for your model Command+Option+P+R Zaps Parameter RAM (Note: Make sure to push this key combination directly after the startup chime, and hold the keys until you hear the startup chime again.) MacBook looses keyboard responsiveness and then dies - I had the same experience almost a week ago, My MacBook (13.3 inch Early 2008) (MB402LL/A) Model No. A1181 suddenly lost keyboard responsiveness and then wouldn't power up at all. I ordered a replacement upper case/keyboard that just arrived today, After installing it I followed mayer's advice and Remove the battery and unplug it, then press the power button for five seconds. Then after putting the battery back in pressed the power button and it works perfectly fine now. I guess the keyboard chip suddenly died, It is a used MacBook that I bought a few weeks ago.
