I repair a lot of phones and bad batteries happen. Have purchased a couple dozen from iFixit now and just encountered the first one. Waiting to see how warranty / replacement is handled - been about 12 hours since I emailed them.
Goo Gone, applied with a pipette, is a non-flammable alternative solution for releasing the adhesive that won’t harm plastics if it seeps past the battery cavities. It does take a bit longer, 30-45 mins, but is much safer. An additional benefit is that the adhesive will be completely separated from the top-case, so cleanup is super quick.
This is a welcome improvement over the old, too sensitive sleep sense arrangement. This will prevent the machine from waking when the display is barely lifted from park and will also eliminate waking if a key is depressed when the display is closed - which can easily occur since the display rests just 0.40 mm above the keys when folded. Noticed this immediately while qualifying RadTech’s ScreenSavrz for this machine.
