Adding a solid state drive as a 2nd hard drive in my mac mini

Wanted a faster, more reliable boot drive - I'd wanted a solid state drive for some time but they'd always been too expensive for a practical capacity. Got a good deal on the ifixit kit & a 240GB Intel drive on CyberMonday, so I went ahead and performed the install.

Pretty smoothly. I watched the video of the disassembly before going ahead with it myself. I swapped the new drive into the older hard drive's spot, then installed the older drive into the formerly empty spot. Reassembly was pretty intuitive. After using the disk utility to format the new drive, I installed a copy of fresh Mountain lion on it. File transfer from the old drive to the new drive was built into the setup of the new OS, and completed without any problems.

Watch the video, watching how to use the spudger to detach the cables really took some of the guesswork out of the whole process.
