我的问题

My home button was broken and I left if broken for a long time because I was able to use the assist feature in the iOS. But when the speaker stopped working, I knew I had to replace it. It was during this process that I damaged my cellular antenna.

我的修理方法

During the speaker replacement I used a tool to help get the cellular antenna off of the speaker and inadvertently broke a small piece on the antenna's underside. The home button repair went great. When I turned the phone back on, as expected, I had severe cellular service issues. So I ordered the cellular antenna (using the $5 coupon I had just received with my home button/speaker) and within a week I had the new antenna in my phone. The repair was very easy when you follow the instructions.

我的建议

Three pieces of advice:

1) Purchase the magnetic project board. I didn't lose one screw even though I dropped more than a few.

2) wear latex/nitril gloves when you work on your phone, that way you never have to worry about getting the oils from your skin on the metal contacts (which can adversely affect cellular and wifi signal strength).

3) When removing the cellular antenna from the speaker, go slow and only use your fingers to pull it away. Putting something like the ipod pry tool between the antenna and speaker can cause damage to very small components on the underside of the cellular ribbon.
