我的问题

The compact fluorescent light bulb would not turn on when the switch was pressed. This light bulb did work in another E26 socket. An old incandescent (old fashioned tungsten wire ) bulb did work in the suspect IKEA lamp. Cleaning the terminals didn't help, suggesting by elimination that it was the switch to blame.

我的修理方法

To remove the switch, loosen the wire (here recessed in the wooden arm- see yellow arrow), unscew bulb and unscrew the large plastic lampshade nut (green arrow). Pull off the wooden switch button (red arrow). Look inside the bulb holder (second image) and the there should be a central and side contact (to power the bulb- red arrows) and a third metal post (yellow arrow) which must be depressed to release the ratchet such that the skirt (blue arrow) can now be unscrewed. The switch can now be extracted. Flood the switch with 'electrical contact cleaner' though any available orifice and press the switch numerous (100?) times. If you have a multimeter you should notice the resistance decreasing as the dirt is gradually forced off the internal contacts. If this doesn't work you may need a new switch or complete bulb holder but the right sort can be difficult/impossible to find.

On drying and reassembly, my lamp was working again

我的建议

Compact fluorescent (CF) bulbs need more current to start than other types (incandescent or LED), so if a known good CF bulb won't illuminate try a another type. If another type bulb does work, its likely to be problem with a dirty switch which is limiting the required starting current.
