iPad 6 Teardown

Difficult

我的问题

Recently, bought an iPad 6th gen with a destroyed digitizer and LCD display. Had an iPad Air 1st gen display laying around, but it is known that the Air 1’s display is not compatible with iPad 5 or 6th, although they are exactly the same, physically and electrically.

我的修理方法

In a deep investigation, found out that the Air 1’s display and 6th gen are absolutely the same, no difference at all. That involved cracking both board shieldings from both screens, no different ICs between screens. The only suspicious IC was a probable EEPROM underneath the smallest shielding. Replaced the Air1’s supposed eeprom from the cracked 6th screen, and the display simply worked as normal.. THOSE SCREENS ARE SOFTWARE LOCKED!

我的建议

Be careful to not bend the display flex unnecessarily.

Use a good amount of kapton tape and aluminum tape when replacing the eeprom chip. Let’s reuse those old Air 1’s screens!
