Let’s hear it for the girls.
During one of the most anticipated evenings of American sports—an event where over a hundred male athletes demonstrate feats of strength—little girls everywhere stood up and stole some attention. GoldieBlox, a start-up company that designs engineering toys for girls, won Intuit’s Small Business, Big Game challenge. After beating out the large pool of 1,500 contestants, they received a coveted 30-second spot during the Super Bowl XLVIII (a reported $4.5 million PR value).
So what does GoldieBlox’s big win say about our culture? Are we ready to teach growing girls how to handle power tools—instead of just makeup brushes? As a diehard power tool wielder myself, I certainly hope so.
If you’re still not sure, check out the official GoldieBlox Super Bowl commercial—and tell me what you think.
