This is ridiculous. The written guides were much easier to follow. I struggled with this. The video would be good as a supplement to the written guides, not as a. replacement. please return the written guides.

I agree, written guides are much easier

where can I find the written guide?

The step guides probably take allot more work but they are so much more informative. You actually learn the computer and all its components as you are disassembling. The videos shows you what to do but its not always obvious what component you are removing. The old guides were great. I guess we were spoiled.

the site seems to have down graded in quality, videos are not near as nice to work with as the step by step, cheap downgrade.

Don't forget that the Touch ID assembly from the replacement logic board also needs to be changed in order to enable Touch ID otherwise it will only function as an on/off button.

I'm just going to start working on these machines so I'm a little unclear. Is the touch ID assembly mounted to the frame or the board? There is no guide to remove the touch ID assembly so I'm in the dark. Is the Touch ID on a Mac only compatible with that board?

Where the top left clip is undone at 6:00 in the video, there is a second smaller clip hidden beneath it. Unclip that as well before removing the motherboard.

I agree with the comments about the value of a stepwise guide. Nevertheless a big thank you to Arty. This video helped me re-paste my heat sink.

For Touch ID and other things : I found info in this video https://www.powerbookmedic.com/manual.ph...

Also, yes I agree, written guides are so much better than the video up there. Yet, it seems difficult to find written info for this mac model online. So my advices, if you deal with this repair / mac:

- Get a magnetic mat for your screws and other things, and organise it well. I did write what was what on the mat, and the timing on the video, to get back to it if need be. Very helpful

- Open the videos in native YouTube client, use space on your computer or iPad with keyboard to pause the video, check what the guy is doing, do it yourself, play the video by hitting space again.

- For Touch ID, you can screw the 4 screws around tight, BUT the two screws inside are not supposed to be too tight. Your power button is supposed to click. Test that you cna click the power button BEFORE remounting the whole computer. Mine would not start, I had to remove the motherboard again to access Touch ID again+untight it.

Also, and even though I appreciate the time it took to make this video, a couple improvements that could be made for future videos from the same author (or others)

- Change of bit size/type : use a title/label in the video, and/or leave it on the screen in a corner for instance. Showing the bit is too quick and not clear/readable.

- Following some order in the ways screws / items are approached, removed/reattached. It was weird to me not to follow a left to right approach consistently, or a clockwise or counter clockwise way. Most of the time, it goes in a lot of different directions. I redid this 2 or 3 times, I tend to go a specific way and check the board accordingly, which is easier.

- Maybe show the way you organize the screws/items removed also, on your magnetic mat, from time to time, would be interesting for people to learn.

the movies are not nearly as good to use as the step by step with pictures instead of video's.
