Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly

  1. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, Take out the screws: 步骤 1 中的图像 1,1
    • Take out the 10 Torx T6 screws as marked and pry open the back cover. I pried from the top (midpoint of the chassis in between the two hinges) as it felt easier that way. You can use a prying tool for completion of this step.

Where can i buy these screws?

You can try the local laptop repair shops or try eBay listings.

    • All parts have been identified on the photos.

  3. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, Battery details: 步骤 3 中的图像 1,1
    • Battery details: 2965 mAh/45Wh, 15.36V - 17.6V

  4. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, Disconnect battery: 步骤 4 中的图像 1,1
    • Disconnect battery as shown. This is a very important step before doing any upgrades or further disassembly

  5. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, RAM upgrade/replacement: 步骤 5 中的图像 1,3 Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, RAM upgrade/replacement: 步骤 5 中的图像 2,3 Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, RAM upgrade/replacement: 步骤 5 中的图像 3,3
    • Take out the metal shield. You can use a prying tool to take it out. Once out, you should be able to see the RAM and the connector.

    • Removing the RAM is easy. You will need both your hands. Gently push the metal prongs outside of the RAM as shown with yellow markers and the RAM should pop out upwards. Once done, gently pull it out of the socket.

    • For installation of new RAM, insert the RAM at a 45 degree angle into the socket and push it down until the metal prongs click it back in.

  6. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, Factory RAM details:
    • The RAM is from Samsung and the spec is DDR4 2666 MHz. My unit came with 8 GB of RAM (4 GB soldered on board and 4 GB on an user upgrade-able stick).

    • It is surprising to see that though the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U supports up to 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, Lenovo is using 2666 MHz RAM on it. The memory operates at 2400 MHz only which can be seen from CPU-Z or other similar software.

  7. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, SSD replacement/upgrade/factory SSD details:
    • Lenovo has used a Samsung PM981 NVMe SSD. My variant came with a 1 TB one.

    • Lenovo has used a warranty seal and hence they will know if the SSD has been removed.

    • Replacement is pretty straight forward, Once the screw is out, lift the SSD gently and pull it out. Reverse the procedure to install another SSD.

Es geht nicht eine seperate SSD einzubauen!!!!!!

    Akuma Teufel - 回复

  8. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, CPU heatsink removal for thermal paste replacement/cleaning: 步骤 8 中的图像 1,1
    • Take out the three screws as shown and gently take the heatsink out. Do not force the heatsink out as the existing thermal paste will cause some adhesion.

  9. Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, CPU details/thermal paste application: 步骤 9 中的图像 1,2 Lenovo Ideapad C340-14API or Flex 14-API Disassembly, CPU details/thermal paste application: 步骤 9 中的图像 2,2
    • Clean the existing thermal paste from CPU and bottom of the heatsink. You can use IPA and some Qtips for the procedure.

    • My unit came with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U quad core CPU with 8 threads

    • After completion of thermal paste application, follow steps in reverse.

    • Before connecting the battery, make sure everything on the motherboard is connected. Before you connect the battery, you should have completed all the tasks (reinstall CPU heatsink, install memory and the shield and plug in any other cables you removed)

    K JAMP - 回复

Hi, I wanted to replace My motherboard. what more do I need to get the keyboard out.

I want to know everything before I start dissembling anything.

Rujul Rumale - 回复

Hi, I did not get to the keyboard but from what I believe is that the keyboard is riveted with plastic tabs or secured with screws (unlikely) with the palmrest. You need to take out the battery and the motherboard and then need to remove the insulation to expose the tabs. Then using a precision knife, you need to cut off those plastic tabs and the keyboard out. For securing the new keyboard, you can use some plastic and melt them with a soldering iron so that the keyboard stays flat. The best solution is to get the entire palmrest section as replacement with the keyboard attached.

I had a coworker spill apple juice over his keyboard. Unfortunately the whole C-Cover had to be replaced which required a complete disassambly. You have to take everything apart.

which size of the t6 screw at the back cover they are using ?

long yap - 回复

The screws should be about 2.5 cm.

Hi, is there a CMOS battery for this laptop model?

I have taken apart the whole thing and never came across a bios battery. In the S340 the cmos battery is connected to the left hand usb and power button board. Also the whole backside of the mainboard is covered in metal foil so I guess there isn’t one as well.

Fred -

There is no CMOS battery for this model. The internal battery provides power for the RTC as well, verified as by disconnecting it, the BIOS settings get reset.

I have a major problem with a ripped case in the upper right corner, as well as similar but not as worse damage by family members with the same device. It startet with a loose screw which i didnt notice got missing. After the first slight damage i replaced the screw and glued it with locktite.

Now after 3 years the rip suddenly got way larger ( from delete to the edge and now over the usb port and 2 cm across the bottom), even tho, the screw is there.

I'm somewhat experienced with electronic repair, but i can't really figure out how to fix the plastic case and plastic on the keyboard.

I am going to open it up, and check the electronics, but it still don't have a clue about fixing the plastic.

I'm very open to ideas, but even some Info on what plastic is used in these devices would be a huge help!!!

Hello there,

I am the one who wrote this guide and still have this laptop, will be 4 years old this March and unfortunately, I have the exact same issue as you though in my case, it started on the left side but now, the right side is affected as well, albeit a bit less. In my case, it started with the base cover near the hinges where I noticed hairline cracks crossing the screw holes. What I did was take out everything including the motherboard and use epoxy adhesive (Araldite) and bonded the broken plastics that way. It is not perfect but it does the job and since the last 6-7 months, I have not seen any progression with the cracks.

My research suggests that this is a very common occurence with Lenovo laptops which are not metal. It is safe to say that the quality of plastics used by the company is not that good. Apart from this, the machine works perfect to this day.

Arijit Guha -

We had employees whose Ideapads showed the exact same problem only after a few months of service. I doubt that the build quality is made to last. Depending on where the rip is located you could just try to find a cheap replacement cover on AliExpress for example - or go Arjit's way!
