InMotion V8 (and variants) Electric Unicycle (EUC) Controller Board Replacement

你所需要的

    • iFixIt doesn't support copying and editing a guide, only referencing prerequisite guides. Bear with me...

    • Lay the unicycle flat with the trolley handle side on the bottom.

    • In the Tube Replacement guide, follow steps 2 - 5 to remove the pedal and lens cover. It is only necessary to remove the upper pedal and lens. It is unnecessary to remove the pedal or lens on the trolley handle side.

    • In the Tube Replacement guide, follow steps 7 - 9 to disconnect the battery, remove the controller cover, and disconnect the motor.

    • Label the LED connections (A1, B1, A2, B2).

    • Carefully remove the edge connectors.

    • Each connector has an integrated clip. You must open the jaw by pressing the clip near the wires. While continuing to hold the clip open, you must slide the connector out.

    • Do not damage the electrical or clip connections. Erratic riding behavior could result from loose electrical connections.

    • Remove six phillips-head screws that attach the heat sink and board to the housing.

    • The heat sink of the controller board adheres lightly to a seal in the wheel-well that is a barrier to water penetration from the wheel housing into the motor controller compartment.

    • Gently peel the controller assembly away from the body. Use your fingers, there isn't really any safe place to pry.

    • Kudos to InMotion, cooling by dumping heat into the wheelwell was GENIUS!

    • The two upper stand-offs are brittle. They can disintegrate into small pieces, leaving loose metal screws bouncing against your 84V controller board as you ride and short-circuiting your power electronics.

    • The gyroscope and accelerometer sensors are mounted on the controller board. If the controller board is not securely fastened and can rattle, the EUC will exhibit unstable behavior. See the Wrong Way troubleshooting video.

    • I highly recommend reinforcing the top two stand-off stanchions with epoxy or similar before proceeding.

    • Inspect and restore the integrity of the water seal weatherstrip between the controller heatsink and the opening into the wheel well.

    • If the weatherstrip doesn't seal tightly against the controller heatsink, water could be forced into the controller compartment when the EUC is ridden through a puddle.

    • Use Loctite to reinstall the six screws that hold the controller board in.

    • Do not overtighten!

    • Consider staking the screw heads with a dot of epoxy on the board and touching the screw.

    • Reattach all electrical connectors.

结论

To reassemble your device, follow instructions in the "Inner Tube Replacement Guide:"

and so on to reinstall the cover and the pedals.
