This guide will show you how to replace a Carrier 14 Seer Heat Pump capacitor. Often, if your air conditioner is not working, the problem may only be a worn or failed capacitor. The capacitor is responsible for turning on the unit. Because the unit requires a lot of energy to get started, the capacitor stores energy while it is running so that when the unit powers off and back on again, it has sufficient energy to do so.

Caution: Use a non-contact voltage tester or a multimeter to make sure that the breaker is not electrically charged. If you do not have access to a multimeter, tap the breaker box with the back of your hand. Remove the emergency shutoff switch by firmly grasping it and pulling it out.

Use a 5/16 nut driver to remove the single bolt and remove the cover by sliding it downwards.

The brown wire will go to the Fan port.
