Moto Razr:
-
Essential Electronics Toolkit$29.95
-

True, I feel like the powder used was like saying that something’s water-resistant and then you shake it in a bag of water to see how much goes in. Resistant, is not “proof”.
is this the smallest high end board we’ve seen in a phone?
Awesome review. All reviews ought to be this thorough and entertaining.
Cheers!
Nice teardown. I think the dust was a bit overkill, the only real word application I could think of is if I dropped the phone in very fine sand, picked it up, and dropped it again. I am a fan of the look of it, the purple is not my style though but I would like a glossy black back glass with a matte red hinge, but ill have to hit up dbrand for that. I might get one when they are all second hand and cheap, if they survive. ;)
I don’t think the application of the purple fairy dust was excessive. I wear my iPhone X in an Otter Box belt holster all the time. I spend a fair amount of time in my weekend weld shop. Welding and grinding produces copious amounts of very fine metallic dust. Obviously, there is no way to put Z Phone in any sort of protective case other than a zip lock bag. I would be afraid of opening the plastic bag anywhere near the shop. The hinge issues would keep Z Phone out of a welding shop. Not that I am at all interested in owning one at all.
When are they going to put zerks on the side of these folding phones so one can blow the dust out?
There are comments that the test was an overkill, but it’s not. This is to simulate time. Sure, that’s a lot of dust, but I’m willing to bet it is close to the amount your phone will see in a year or two.
This test is meant to be a bit of an overkill to see a few things: Does the dust get in? How much gets in? Where does it get in? How far in does it go? This was a perfect test.
I’m willing to bet that after a year in a pocket, you’ll start hearing the hinges grind when opening and closing the phone.
The first tear down I've read on your site (I'm brand new to it) and I loooved it. An excellent combo of tech talk and fun talk. I'm hooked. Hmm, what shall I read next? Well done, mate.
The “dust” is anything but excessive. Give any portable device a couple months on the road, and they’d all get this and more. It was a fantastic test, and very telling.
Creator of this teardown,
Sorry if this is annoying, but I am placing comments on some teardowns in hopes that you will see one, to suggest a MiPosaur teardown. This device features lots of screws and no adhesives. This one can be more fun for you! Thanks, and if you make one, it can improve iFixit.
Thanks for sharing this kind of valuable and informative article.
I hope that's will be benefited enough for relevant people.
appreciate it.
I'm the video it says that the phone can handle a professionally installed screen protector. Is that true?
Hello do you know where I can find the nfc charging coil module or what I need to type into Google to search it? Need a replacement. Thanks
