The Sega CD I, A.K.A. The Mega CD I (in Japan) was the original Sega CD unit released in 1991.
== Identification & Background == The Sega CD I, A.K.A. The Mega CD I (in Japan) was the original Sega CD unit. It features a front-loading CD tray and attachment slot which allowed connection to the Genesis console, giving it CD-readability. Released in 1991, it was sold in both U.S. and Japanese markets. The first version of the Mega-CD sits underneath the Mega Drive console and loads CDs via a motorized tray. A second version places a top-loading CD-ROM drive to the right of the console, and is intended primarily for use with the redesigned Sega Mega Drive 2. Both versions of the Mega-CD are compatible with the initial two versions of the Mega Drive console, but not with the Mega Drive 3 or Genesis 3. == Additional Links == [https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0009UYZ84/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all|Buy used on Amazon] [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega-CD|Wikipedia: Mega-CD]
