It was first released in 2006, replacing the PowerMac G5 series of computers.

The first Mac Pro was based on dual Dual-core Xeon Woodcrest processors. This was replaced by a dual Quad-core Xeon Clovertown model on April 4, 2007, and again on January 8, 2008 by a dual Quad-core Xeon Harpertown model

The Mac Pro 2013 features a totally revamped design with a polished black aluminum cylinder built around a central thermal dissipation core.

The 2019 Mac Pro is a high-performance desktop computer designed by Apple, aimed at professional users who require extreme processing power and expandability. Featuring a modular design, it includes up to a 28-core Intel Xeon processor, up to 1.5TB of memory, and supports multiple high-end graphics cards. The Mac Pro's case, a design that brings back much of the upgradable aspects missed with the 2013 designed for optimal airflow and easy upgrades, can house various expansion modules, including storage, networking, and PCIe cards. The 2023 Mac Pro delivers powerful processing for professional users in fields like video editing, 3D rendering, and many more. One common complaint is that it loses out on the expandability the 2019 had with its soldered SOC, non upgradable RAM, and does not support any PCIe graphics cards.

== Identification ==

The Mac Pro resembles a traditional desktop computer and has the Apple logo slapped on the side. The 2019 and 2023 models ditched the cylinder design and vaguely resemble the Mac Pros from 2006-2012. The housing of the 2019 and 2023 models can be removed by using the hatch on top of the case.
